Prevention
Radiographs
We are using digital radiographs, which means one half of the radiation exposure, and enhanced x-ray imaging, enabling us to be thorough in our diagnosis. We therefore will catch early cavities, infections, and malocclusions before they deteriorate and threaten tooth loss or other forms of oral disease.
Patient Recalls
Patients are placed on periodic recall programs to monitor their home care in order to provide customized periodontal maintenance, and to ensure that small dental problems do not escalate to more serious ones.
Fluoride
When necessary, fluoride supplements are given to children, when applicable. Fluoride supplements are monitored from the time of pregnancy until the permanent teeth are fully developed. As permanent teeth erupt, topical application of fluoride will be initiated until age 15. Seniors will be given sodium fluoride treatments to reduce root surface caries and sensitivity, which is very common in this population.
Sealants
Sealant will be placed on all permanent teeth that require them as the teeth erupt, before deep grooves develop into tooth decay.
Serial Extraction of Baby Teeth
Teeth will be monitored for an early tooth size, arch size discrepancy. If there is not enough space for permanent teeth to come in, we might extract certain baby teeth to allow normal eruption of the permanent teeth to buy time until the jaws grow, preventing, in effect, the need for braces.
Orthodontics (Braces)
We are Invisalign certified dentists, and have at our disposal a certified orthodontist available for consultations.
Prosthetics
Crown and Bridge
Both Dr. Weiss and Dr. Messinger are extremely competent at both removable and fixed restorations. We have excellent laboratories and we have 20 years of experience working together fabricating esthetic porcelain restorations to replace or restore damaged or missing teeth. In doing so, we can mimic or improve natural esthetics with crowns, bridge work or porcelain laminates. We can actually change a person’s entire appearance as some of you have seen in extreme makeover.
Cosmetic Dentistry
We are particularly focused on offering our patients the latest cosmetic procedures. These include: professional ZOOM whitening, porcelain laminates, and composite bonding. These procedures can enhance the patient’s appearance by making their teeth whiter and more aesthetic. This can be achieved by removing irregularities in both position, shape and color that adversely affect a person’s smile. Various options for achieving an aesthetic goal can be discussed with the patient, including gingival plastic surgery and tooth recontouring.
Implants
To augment the stability of removable bridges, or to replace missing teeth when other options are either impractical or undesirable, we place implants. The surgeons placing our implants are recognized implantologists. We carefully choose the people who are candidates for implant placement. We therefore have excellent success rates.
Fillings
We offer all types of recognized filling materials to our patients and discuss the pros and cons of the various options as well as the cost. Porcelain or plastic composite fillings are the material of choice for those who are esthetically aware of their teeth. Many people choose the affordable and durable silver fillings or the extremely durable gold fillings. Porcelain and gold onlays are offered as an option when simple fillings are inadequate and crowns may be too premature.
Periodontal (Gum Treatments)
In our office, we are highly aware of our patient’s periodontal status. Gum infections are treated both surgically and non-surgically. Bone grafts are placed when necessary. Medications as Arestin, Periostat, and Peridex are used to customize the treatment to each patient’s unique situation.
Great emphasis is placed on prevention to avoid a recurrence of gum infections. We discuss in depth why the problem exists, as well as how periodontal treatment will achieve sustained gingival health.
Root Canal Therapy (Endodontics)
We treat approximately 95% of the teeth that require root canal treatment. The other 5% we refer to specialists where certain complicated conditions exist. For pregnant patients in pain, we have special equipment to measure root canals without taking x-rays. We also can treat root canal infections surgically if necessary, when conventional treatment is inadequate.
Oral Surgery
We treat most emergencies in our office including simple surgical and wisdom tooth extractions. We also save teeth with apical surgery and root amputations when necessary. Both local anesthesia and sedation with nitrous oxide are offered, resulting in a pain-free, pleasant dental experience.
